1st Place! Defending Champion, Chris Petzy, of Team Too Strong claims his second consecutive victory in the 2009 Annual Cardboard Canoe Race held at the Alfond Center Pool on Thursday night, Oct. 29. First Mate, Jordan Simenas, helped Captain Petzy paddle their patented-designed boat to an easy victory in a record-setting pace of 44 seconds. A humble Petzy credits his victory to sheer strength, determination, and the quality craftsmanship of his crew members Spencer Adams and Barry Teng. Will there be a 3-Peat for Petzy in 2010? |

English professor Edward Rielly's latest book “Football: An Encyclopedia of Popular Culture,” was recently published by the University of Nebraska Press. The book highlights football's role in shaping society and examines critical advances and changes in both the people and the technology of football, touching on topics such as game concepts, mascots, concussions, and even U.S. presidents. |

On Friday, September 18, 146 students from Riverton School in Portland participated in the 2009 Make-a-Splash Water Festival with Project WET. The day was funded by Poland Spring Water and Portland Water District. Preservice teachers majoring in Elementary and Physical Education ran 6 different stations dealing with water use and conservation. |
