    Research assistant Lane Hubacz '09 measures pH at the South Portland mudflats where Dr. Mark Green continues his study of clam mortality. By measuring alkalinity, Green will be able to determine the 'sediment saturation state,' which indicates if clam mortality from shell dissolution is likely.

  • A science reporter from the Boston Globe interviewed Mark Green on Tuesday about his research on ocean acidification 's effect on shellfish . A Globe photographer/videographer also shot images at the Mill Cove mudflats in South Portland to illustrate the story, which will run in the next few weeks.
