Dear Members of the Saint Joseph's College Community,
It has been just over a month since the search consultants from Isaacson, Miller were on campus to interview many individuals and groups to learn more about the College's cultural clues and to better appreciate its implicit mission, vision and values. As a result of the interviews, they also were able to define in a cogent manner the personal and professional characteristics of an ideal candidate and the strategic challenges and specific objectives that the new President would be expected to address. For your vital input, I thank you for delivering a treasury of information with solid insight, given so freely and with an element of benign candor.
The recruitment document now being used throughout the search process is imbedded in the Saint Joseph's College website within mySJC page. Look for a link entitled “Presidential Search”.
Before the consultants left the campus, they met with the Search Committee to summarize their findings. During this discussion, they noted that a recommendation to appoint representatives from GPS and the Staff to the Search Committee had been made during their meetings with you. The Search Committee heard you, immediately acted upon your recommendation, and appointed Walter O'Driscoll and Tom Hancock to the Committee.
The presidential recruitment process is now in high gear. Our search consultants have placed ads in several periodicals and websites and have reached out to their extensive network. A timetable of Search Committee meetings and activities has been set, beginning in March with a thorough review of resumes received, to be followed with interviews in April. The Search Committee will first interview selected semi-finalists to narrow the field of candidates for final interviews that will be held on campus and involve many of you. Following a recommendation by the Board of Trustees to the Conference of Mercy Higher Education, it is anticipated that a new President of the College will be appointed in May.
Again, I assure you that the Board is absolutely committed to finding the best and most qualified candidate through a thoughtful and objective process. Saint Joseph's College deserves only the very finest.
Finally and equally importantly, I wish you a happy and fruitful new year!
Fraser Bowen, Chair
