Student EMT (Emergency Medical Technician)
The Office of Campus Security seeks students to serve in the position of EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) for the 2009-2010 Academic Year.
Job Summary: The student EMT will work on an on-call basis during certain overnights and special events in order to supplement Security Department EMT coverage on campus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must for the position-the successful candidate will work closely with Security Officers, Residence Life staff and local fire/EMS on a regular basis and will be expected to treat all information in the highest confidentiality. The successful Student EMT will be organized, efficient, and will demonstrate a high degree of personal responsibility and accountability.
Duties Associated with Position: Duties include responding in a timely manner to all calls requiring medical attention while on call/on duty; interacting with the college population and primarily serving the student population; properly filling out run sheets and other documentation deemed necessary by the Campus Security Department.
Required Skills: The skills, knowledge and abilities needed to perform this job are established and met by possessing a current State of Maine/ National EMT- basic or higher license/certification.
Physical Requirements: Must be physically fit and able to respond in a timely manner to medical calls for assistance and medical emergencies anywhere on campus while on duty. Occasional lifting, sometimes in excess of 50 lbs (but with assistance), may be required.
Certifications/Licenses: Must hold a current EMT-Basic or higher license as required by State of Maine Emergency Medical Services
Number of hours per week per employee anticipated: 10-20 hours “on-call”/week with usually less than an average of two hours of active “run” time/week.
Number of employees required in the department for this job: 5-10
Time requirements, if any (e.g., MWF, 2-4 PM)? Varies based upon student schedule, most on-call time will be scheduled for evenings, overnights and weekends.
Employees will require additional OSHA training? Yes – Blood borne pathogen training
